Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about HVAC service, installation, and maintenance
General Questions
How often should I change my HVAC air filter?
Most standard 1-inch filters should be changed every 1-3 months. High-efficiency filters can last 6-12 months. If you have pets, allergies, or live in a dusty area, change them more frequently. A clogged filter reduces efficiency and can damage your system.
How long does an HVAC system last?
A well-maintained central air conditioner typically lasts 15-20 years. Furnaces can last 20-25 years. Heat pumps usually last 15-20 years. Regular maintenance significantly extends equipment life. If your system is over 10 years old and requiring frequent repairs, it may be time to consider replacement.
How much does a new HVAC system cost?
Costs vary based on system size, equipment brand, and installation complexity. A new central AC system typically ranges from $3,000-$7,000. A furnace replacement ranges from $2,500-$5,000. A complete HVAC system (both AC and furnace) can range from $5,000-$12,000. We provide free estimates and offer financing options.

Air Conditioning Questions
Why is my AC not cooling properly?
Common causes include: dirty air filter, low refrigerant, frozen evaporator coil, dirty condenser coil, or a failing compressor. Many of these are preventable with regular maintenance. Call us for a diagnostic visit — we’ll identify the problem and provide an honest quote.
What is SEER and why does it matter?
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures AC efficiency. Higher SEER = more efficient = lower energy bills. The minimum SEER in Georgia is 15 SEER2. We recommend 16-20 SEER for the best balance of upfront cost and long-term savings in Georgia’s climate.
Should I repair or replace my old AC?
Consider replacement if: your system is 10+ years old, repair costs exceed 50% of replacement cost, your system uses R-22 refrigerant (no longer manufactured), or your energy bills are significantly higher than normal. We’ll give you an honest assessment to help you decide.
Heating Questions
Is a heat pump better than a furnace for Georgia?
In Georgia’s moderate climate, heat pumps are very efficient for most of the heating season. They’re typically more cost-effective than gas furnaces when temperatures are above 35°F. Many homeowners choose a dual-fuel system (heat pump + gas furnace backup) for maximum efficiency year-round. We can help you analyze your options.
What is AFUE and what rating should I look for?
AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) measures furnace efficiency. A 90% AFUE furnace converts 90 cents of every $1 of gas to heat. We recommend at least 96% AFUE for new furnace installations in Georgia. Modern high-efficiency furnaces can reach 98% AFUE.
